Florida Realtors® announces new scholarship program

ORLANDO, Fla. – Feb. 22, 2010 – Do you have kids currently in college, or maybe one who is about to graduate high school? Are they interested in a possible real estate-related career? Then find out more about the Florida Association of Realtors® Education Foundation Inc., a new not-for-profit corporation established to provide real estate-related educational scholarships and grants. But act fast: The application deadline for this year’s program is March 15.

“These are challenging economic times,” says Bob Hudgens, chairman of the Florida Association of Realtors Education Foundation Inc. “ There are so many deserving young people who just need a little financial help to be able to go to college or to continue their college studies. Realtors are on the frontlines in today’s economy, so we certainly understand what this new student scholarship program will mean to families seeking a way to help pay for their children’s educational dreams.”

This new student scholarship program, unlike Florida Realtors’ longstanding scholarship/essay contest, is also open and available to students whose parents are Realtors or are licensed real estate practitioners, or whose parents are employed by any local Realtor board/association or by the Florida Realtors, as well as any student currently enrolled at a Florida school (including home-schooled students or those attending a charter school.) It is based on an application form, which can be found at http://www.floridarealtors.org/AboutFar/ScholarshipAwards/2010-Realtor-scholarship.cfm.

Who can apply for the new program? Any Florida high school senior who will be attending an undergraduate college or university; students currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university; and students pursuing graduate studies are eligible.

Scholarships are up to $2,000 for students attending a two-year college, and up to $4,000 for students attending a four-year college or university. Criteria to be considered include, but aren’t limited to: academic achievements, financial need, relationship to the Realtor family, and contributions to family, school and community.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors has “sole and absolute discretion” over all decisions as to whether an applicant qualifies.

Students have until March 15 to fill out an application for Florida Realtors’ new student scholarship program. To download the guidelines, procedures and application form, go to: http://www.floridarealtors.org/AboutFar/ScholarshipAwards/2010-Realtor-scholarship.cfm
